So I got this at the weekend
![]() A lovely new shiny weber so i set about fitting it after reading the instructions fully I was a bit nervous cause i don't really know what all the coolant and vacuum pipes were for but got on nevertheless. Whilst removing the old pierburg it practicaly dropped to pieces in my hand a lot of the metal parts were completely coroded and the coolant pipes were blocked lucky i changed it now rather than later me thinks ![]() thats with the old unit out so I had a bit of a clean round whilst i could get to everything, Fitting the new carb was a lot easier than i thought it would be and I managed to do it all in a matter of hours, then i set the revs with a tachometer. the difference is unbeleivable mpg's gone straight up and performance is amazing, much more responsive and starts easier and is much easier to drive, still needs a bit of tuning up to get it spot on but all in all I'm pleased with what i've done so far I still dont know what this is though, so if you do let me know, I can't figure out what it does, its on the right of the cylinder head and i'm tempted to just replace it with a normal flange -------------------- ![]() |

yup its a coolant flange alrighty, the bit that sticks out on the back looks like an old skool coolant temp sensor to me. one where a spade type connector slides over it. is the blue wire in the pic just floating about?

yeah it seems too, i think, comes on at start up but then goes out
is that right? I'll have a look round and see if theres any wires that look like they should be atatched to it and get back to you, could do with knowing what it is because is clearly needs replacing -------------------- ![]() |

Good work mate, always good when you carry out modifications that actually do some good to the way the car runs

Grandads looking good Jamie.
I'd be tempted to get a wire brush on that sensor, it might clean up ok. -------------------- ![]() |

right then I fitted a new water pump and some new coolant flanges yesterday which all went well, then i decided to change the rocker cover gasket cause its been leaking oil from there, so i took off the rocker cover, and thought 'ooh I'll just lift off that plastic plate thing and look at my cam shaft and valves (basicaly because i've never seen under there before
)and this is what it looked like ![]() very nice i thought, but wait a minute, something doesn't look right ![]() so, should there be a bearing cap thing there? I didn't have much time but i couldn't see anywhere to bolt the bearing cap in? I'm a little confussed so could do with some advice? any ideas -------------------- ![]() |
