Bit of a different topic really.. so.. what was the last thing to break on your car?
Mine on the fiesta was a headlight bulb, which are notorious for being crap to change yourself. -------------------- ![]() |

This should be interesting, now let me think
:Cerbera: Crankshaft snapped in half, the rear de-mister will not turn off, the windscreen wipers stops half way across the screen, the air-con does not do anything and the new exhaust melted the carpet in the boot! 911: Engine backfire, split the airbox in half and set fire to the air filter Mondeo: A water pipe came lose, rubbed against the power stearing pump pulley, split, sprayed water onto the PAS pulley going round an island, the PAS belt slipped, I could not steer the car and ended up on the payment The wife's Festa is running a treat Maybe I should get a VW next time! not so much broke it but last time i tried to get the passenger side front wheel of my golf it was stuck on! just would not come off the wheel hub, even after i took the wheel bolts out, even resorted to taping it with a plastic mallet from the back, so i've just ignored it since then

Oh mate. I've had this. Are they alloys?
The aluminium in the alloys has a different electronic potential to the iron in the steel in the hub and when the aluminium and the steel come into contact, electron flow causes Galvanic Corrosion (this is how a battery works and why salt, containing sodium ions, rots your car faster than just water). So now your alloy has welded itself to the steel hub. Get yourself a large rubber mallet and give the wheel a good thwack and move it round and belt it again. Keep this up and the weld will crack and your wheel will come off. When you put it back together cover the contacting surfaces with grease (some people recommend copper slip grease. I just use normal grease as you are doing it to stopping the electron flow by putting a non conductor between the different metal and not greasing it to let it spin quicker ) and then do the same with rest before they weld up. Sorry for the hijack Andrew -------------------- ![]() ![]() |
