Honestly It depends on the area of the Bronx your in. the same goes for Brooklyn. The bronx has gotten better Via statistics however Officials know over 60% of the crimes that happen are not reported in the bronx. 85% (about maybe more) do not make the Media. When I was in high school there was 3 suicides in one yr and not once was it heard on TV. Bank robberies do still happen just not as often. Rape is actually gone down with in the past six months but is higher than last yr. and theres a bunch of other statistics that for watever reason I look at from time to time. but to give a answer to your question

South Bronx YES Just as bad as in the movies (just not on the main roads)

Upper Bronx going toward mount vernon is not so bad but still not great

oh and My last car was stolen from Brooklyn so they are no better lol
